Helping Our Women Launches “Women Thriving” Capital Campaign with $20,000 Leading Gift from Seamen’s Bank
A $1.5M Initiative for Enhancing Women’s Health and Wellness in Outer Cape

Provincetown, MA, August 2, 2023 – Helping Our Women (HOW), the resource center for women battling chronic or serious health conditions in Outer Cape, announced the launch of a new capital campaign, Women Thriving, at its annual meeting. The campaign aims to raise $1.5 million to boost the health and wellness of women residing in Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro, and Provincetown.

In a remarkable show of support, Seamen’s Bank has made a leading gift of $20,000 to initiate the public phase of the “Women Thriving” campaign. This generous contribution brings the total funds raised thus far to over $900,000 and sets the stage for other donors to join forces with HOW in making a tangible difference in the lives of women on the Outer Cape.

Over the past five years, HOW has experienced a 61% increase in the number of women it serves. The complexity of the needs of these clients has also escalated. The Women Thriving campaign is a direct response to these growing and evolving needs.

In addition, HOW has a vision for the future – a future where the organization promotes the wellness of all women living on the Outer Cape. This vision deepens HOW’s mission by incorporating comprehensive health education and advocacy while fortifying the social ties of connection and community that foster resilience.

To realize this vision, HOW plans to expand its foundation by including two Women’s Wellness Centers. The existing space in Provincetown will be upgraded, and a new center, the Ann Maguire Women’s Wellness Center, is being developed in Eastham.

To raise the anticipated capital, HOW is seeking donations from individuals, corporations, foundations, and community partners who wish to make a positive difference in the lives of Outer Cape women. All funds raised will be directly channeled towards enhancing health and wellness services, including patient education and advocacy, support services, and community connections.

Gwynne Guzzeau, Executive Director of HOW, expressed her thoughts on the new campaign. “The Women Thriving campaign is more than just a fundraiser. It’s a bold step towards a future where every woman on the Outer Cape can access the necessary health and wellness resources, no matter how complex their needs. By establishing these wellness centers, we can provide an inclusive, supportive environment that empowers women to take control of their health and well-being.”

“The Seamen’s Long Point Charitable Foundation has been a long-time partner with Helping Our Women by supporting their much-needed work around women’s health and wellness.” said Lori Meads, President and CEO of Seamen’s Bank. “The expansion into Eastham further solidifies their commitment to provide the critical services to women in need, and by supporting them, is what it means to be a community bank.”

The capital campaign and the expansion it will fund mark a significant milestone in HOW’s service to the Outer Cape community. The organization stands dedicated to its mission of educating, supporting, and empowering women to manage their unique healthcare journeys and improving access to healthcare and overall well-being.
