Food Access Program
Everyone deserves access to nourishing food.
At HOW, we help women on the Outer Cape get the food support they need—whether it’s applying for benefits, getting groceries delivered, or receiving a gift card to shop for what works best for you.
How We Help
Our Food Access Program includes several services designed to meet you where you are:
- SNAP Benefits Assistance: We’ll help you apply for or renew your SNAP (food stamp) benefits and respond to any verification requests from the state.
- One-on-One Support: Meet with HOW staff or volunteers to review letters from the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) and get help navigating your benefits.
- Free Rides to Hyannis: Need to meet with a SNAP caseworker in person? We’ll get you there—free of charge.
Pantry Partners
We work with the Family Pantry of Cape Cod and Lower Cape Outreach Council to make sure food is accessible and delivered with care:
- Mobile Pantry Program: Each month, we coordinate grocery orders and deliver them directly to client homes from the Family Pantry’s Provincetown distribution site. In 2024, we delivered over 1,100 bags of groceries to 38 households, serving 66 Outer Cape residents.
- Monthly Pantry Visits: We offer rides to the Family Pantry 1–2 times per month, including stops at their thrift store. These outings are not just practical—they’re also a chance to connect with other women in the community.
- Holiday Meals: We take orders and deliver festive meals to your home during the holidays, thanks to our partners at Lower Cape Outreach and Family Pantry.
Grocery Store Gift Cards
- Monthly Support: Over 45 women in our Financial Assistance program receive a $105 grocery gift card each month to help supplement SNAP benefits and support dietary needs related to health conditions.
- Additional Support: Each month, we purchase 35 $25 gift cards available to any HOW client in need. These are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of one per week.
Personalized Support
Your health journey is unique—and we’re here to walk it with you.
Whether you’re living with asthma, anxiety, arthritis—or navigating cancer, Parkinson’s, MS, or recovering from surgery—HOW offers personalized support tailored to your needs.
We currently support over 325 women across the Outer Cape, offering guidance and connection before, during, and after a health challenge.
What personalized support looks like
- Listening First: We start with a conversation about what matters most to you.
- Resource Navigation: We’ll help you find programs, benefits, and services that match your needs.
- Medical Advocacy: Need help communicating with your healthcare provider? We can join your call or help you prepare questions to make sure your voice is heard.
- Wellness Coaching: You’ll have the option to meet one-on-one with a trained Peer Wellness Coach for a supportive conversation.
- Referrals: We’ll connect you with trusted partner agencies for additional support.
You don’t have to figure it all out alone. We’re here to help—every step of the way.
Meal Deliveries
Working with the Soup Kitchen in Provincetown (SKIP), we deliver fresh meals to homebound or older community members 1–2 times per week, all year long.
Food is care—and we’re here to help you access it.
