Micro-Transit Transportation Program

Need a ride to your medical appointment? We’ve got you covered.

For over 30 years, Helping Our Women has provided free transportation to healthcare appointments for women living with chronic or serious health conditions in Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro, and Provincetown.

We know that getting to care can be complicated—especially on the Outer Cape. That’s why we’re here to help.

Who can use this service?
If you’re a woman living in one of the Outer Cape towns and registered as a HOW client, you can request a ride—regardless of your income or assets. Just give us at least 4 days’ notice to schedule your trip.
How it works
We coordinate rides using a mix of:

  • Friendly volunteer drivers
  • Paid drivers
  • Local taxi services
  • The CCRTA Hospital Bus to Boston

In 2024, we added our first HOW mini-van to help reduce costs and expand access to longer-distance rides.

Why transportation matters
Healthcare on the Cape often means traveling far:
Orleans (for physical therapy): 27 miles, 40–60+ minutes one way
Hyannis (for specialists and Cape Cod Hospital): 47 miles, 60+ minutes one way
Boston (for advanced care): 115 miles, 2–3+ hours one way

Public transportation options are limited and time-consuming. That’s why HOW’s transportation program is a lifeline for many women in our community.

Funding Support

We’re proud to receive funding from the Massachusetts DOT Community Transit Grant Program and Lori’s Limo Fund of the Cape Cod Foundation to help cover costs. But our program also relies on the generosity of local donors and foundations.

Need a ride? Let us help you get there—safely, reliably, and with care.
