HOW Can Help

For Women Living With Chronic or Serious Health Conditions on the Outer Cape

HOW wants to help you. To ease the stress of everyday life, we can provide you with support services, so you can focus on wellness and well-being. Women with a chronic health condition who live in Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro or Provincetown are eligible to receive support. We do not discriminate on the basis of income, marital status, age, race, ethnicity, religion or immigration status.

Core Service  Areas

The Transportation Program provides rides to medical appointments whether on the Cape or in Boston and for other health related needs.

  • Volunteer drivers, as available
  • Lyft rides for cancer patients to medical appointments or support groups
  • Funding for the hospital bus or CCRTA transportation programs
  • Cape Air tickets for critically-ill

We no longer run a small pantry in Provincetown, instead we are focused on providing assistance accessing food programs from the many different local pantries and meal providers. Here are some of the types of food access services we provide to registered HOW clients:

  • Assistance completing or renewing SNAP application for government food benefits
  • Coordinate with local providers of free nutritious meals, as available
  • Enroll in a local pantry food delivery program to receive monthly grocery order at your home

HOW provides the following financial assistance options to women living with limited incomes:

  • Monthly stipend available to pay for alternative care treatment (e.g. massage, acupuncture, yoga etc.) or utilities
  • Emergency assistance funds available on limited basis

Our health and wellness programs are open to all women across the Cape, not only registered members.

Each month we host programs to promote social connection, peer support, or talks related to women’s health and wellness. Be sure to check out the monthly newsletter or the events calendar to find out what’s happening at HOW this month!

Additional services provided by HOW are listed below:

  • Assistance applying for disability, fuel assistance and other programs
  • Medical advocacy to healthcare providers
  • Coaching sessions to re-frame and reset goals
