HOW Can Help

For Women Living With Chronic or Serious Health Conditions on the Outer Cape

HOW wants to help you. To ease the stress of everyday life, we can provide you with support services, so you can focus on wellness and well-being. Women with a chronic health condition who live in Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro or Provincetown are eligible to receive support. We do not discriminate on the basis of income, marital status, age, race, ethnicity, religion or immigration status.

Core Service  Areas

The Transportation Program provides rides to medical appointments whether on the Cape or in Boston and for other health related needs.

  • Volunteer drivers, as available
  • Lyft rides for cancer patients to medical appointments or support groups
  • Funding for the hospital bus or CCRTA transportation programs
  • Cape Air tickets for critically-ill

Here is a short description of what is meant by “Grocery & Personal Products.”

  • Food pantry
  • Personal products pantry
  •  Assistance completing or renewing SNAP application for government food benefits
  • Coordinate with local providers of free nutritious meals, as available

HOW provides the following financial assistance options to women living with limited incomes:

  • Monthly stipend available to pay for alternative care treatment (e.g. massage, acupuncture, yoga etc.) or utilities
  • Emergency assistance funds available on limited basis

COMPASS is our program for social engagement and wellness education. COMPASS services include:

  • Monthly informal gatherings for coffee & conversation
  • Occasional wellness programming
  • One-on-one matching for peer support and companionship
  • Here 4 You radio show on WOMR discussing topics related to wellness and well-being

Additional services provided by HOW are listed below:

  • Assistance applying for disability, fuel assistance and other programs
  • Coordinate with Cape Wellness Collaborative for yoga voucher
  • Limited access to 2-hour housecleaning voucher
  • Medical advocacy to local providers
  • Coaching sessions to re-frame and reset goals
